Am I Enough

Am I Enough?

Am I enough? I know this question. I know this question so deeply. I know this question the way the ocean floor knows the salt water; heavily washed over me. Through time, I’ve also come to know the answer just as well.

Understanding The Question

For as much as we ask ourselves this, the question itself doesn’t really make sense. Enough for what? Our job? Our spouse and children? Happiness? To be truthful, by the time most of us get to asking ourselves this question with its full depth, we are asking if we are enough on behalf of all these things. We are asking if we are enough for anything in life. We are so burnt out from trying to be and do it all, that we start to feel inadequate in everything. I believe this is why when we ask this question, it is almost always left open ended.

On Our Own

To answer this question plainly, in our own strength, we are not enough. Life is full of give and take. The more we give to one area, the more we sacrifice in another. We are constantly trying to balance all the things. However, even if we poured all of ourselves into one single area, we would still not be enough. Why? Because perfection does not exist in us. How can we arrive at enough?

We all have standards that are set above what is actually achievable given our nature; we get weary, unmotivated, distracted, and heavily burdened beyond what we can do. Even doing our very best, there are still gaps in us. I know this sounds incredibly discouraging, but stay with me. There is a way we can be what we need to be, and find strength to manage the weight of the seemingly endless responsibilities we have as women, mothers, wives, workers, etc.

Truth Of The Matter

With Christ, you are enough. In fact, you are abundantly more than enough for everything in life simply by adding Jesus. How does having God in your life change the answer so drastically? By giving you a complete and perfect source of strength.

As I mentioned, it is in our human nature to run dry, burnout, and grow weary. These things are not in God’s nature, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. When we have Him in us through the Holy Spirit, we have an everlasting overflowing well to pull from. Not only that, but we have constant access to Him, and when we seek Him, he provides.

When you feel that you are not enough, where are you pulling your strength from? Are you relying on yourself to do everything for everyone 24/7? We must lean into God for help if we want to sustain. There is no other way.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:26

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10

“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”
Psalm 29:11

You are enough, because God is enough. He will give you strength to be anything and everything you need to be in the season you are in.

Let’s drop our egos that tell us we are enough and can do it all. Let’s stop running ourselves thin, and just lean into our loving father who will bless us with strength and peace. What a gift to be able to pull from Him. There is so much freedom to be found in accepting that we can’t be and don’t need to be enough on our own. Let God be your source.

When you feel you are not enough, when you are tired and weary, fall into His arms and allow Him to strengthen you. When you do this, the heavy weight of life can be replaced with the peace and strength only God can provide. Let these things wash over you, like the salt water over the ocean floor. Be filled with Him, and know you are enough.

How Can I Have That?

Maybe you’re thinking, that sounds nice, but you don’t know God on a personal level. Who is Jesus? What the heck is the Holy Spirit? This lady is whack. I will be sure to go into more detail on this sometime, but for now I will give you a short version and how to have a relationship with God, the giver of all true peace, joy, and strength. The maker of the universe and all things good.

God wants to lead you in a life of purpose, peace, joy in all things, and love. All it takes to have this is to pray. Ask Him to guide you, and give Him first priority in your life. This is a powerful and hefty commitment. Definitely not one to take lightly. Having that relationship with God is simple, not always easy, but quite simple. That is a ridiculously short answer for such a powerful and influential part of life so, I will absolutely be doing a post with more details on that. If you have any immediate questions or want to talk more on that, please reach out to me! I would absolutely LOVE to talk to more about it!
